Four Ways an iPhone Can Make Your Life Easier

Greg Leighton asked:

Once you get past all the hype, the Apple iPhone really is a remarkable piece of modern technology. Maybe you’ve resisted getting one because it seems to be a fad, or you’re under the impression that most people who have an iPhone only bought it to be trendy or look cool. While that may be the case for some people, other iPhone owners will tell you that having the device contributes a lot more to their productivity than a regular cell phone. Aside from being able to send and receive e-mail, stay in touch with clients, and network, an iPhone can actually make your life a little easier.

Save Money – Newspaper coupons have been around for ages. Some people spend hours clipping and organizing them, and then planning their grocery shopping around them to get the best deals. Then came online coupons, which made things a little easier.

Now there are coupons for your cell phone. In particular, there are a couple of iPhone apps that are intended to help you find local deals not just at the grocery store, but at department stores, and home improvement warehouses. One of the most popular coupon apps is Cellfire, but also give Yowza!! a try.

Get Where You’re Going – How many times have you traveled to a new city, either for work or pleasure, and spent much of your time there finding your way around? Just locating a place to eat can be time consuming and stressful when your time is limited, and you’re hungry. And walking around a city with your nose in a map just screams tourist and makes you a target for thieves. Enter the iPhone, and apps like Lonely Planet Travel Guides.

Lonely Planet is well known for its thorough and informative travel books. Now they’ve taken their travel experience and knowledge, and put it into an iPhone app. Find things to do and see, and great places to eat with just a few taps on the touchscreen. This app currently includes information for 34 cities, with more additions planned.

Find a Movie and Buy Tickets – Remember when, in order to find out what movies were playing and at what times, you had to buy a newspaper? Then Moviefone came along, which you could call and a recording would tell you what was playing at your local theater, and at what time. It was a little more convenient, but still cumbersome, having to wait for the recorded, mechanical voice to get through all the listings you were interested in.

Now, all you have to do is power up your iPhone, and download the Flixster app. It lists theaters that are close to your location, and you can select the ones you frequent as favorites so they’re always at the top of the list. Then you can see what movies are playing at the theater you select, and at what time. In fact, you can get movie listings and showtimes up to a week in advance. You can also get information about the movies, see and leave reviews, and watch trailers.

The best part is, you can do all this when you spontaneously decide to go see a movie while you’re at the mall, and you don’t have to buy a newspaper or listen to a robot voice to decide what to see. Even better, download the Fandango app, and you can buy tickets right from your phone and not have to stand in line at the box office.

Pay Your Wireless Bill – It happens to everyone. You go on vacation, or you’re visiting family without access to a computer, and your cell phone bill is due. If you don’t pay it promptly, your service will be interrupted, causing even more of an inconvenience. What to do?

Well, you could call your wireless provider and pay over the phone, sure. Or, if you have an iPhone, which means you have service with AT&T, you can use the myWireless app to pay your bill directly from your phone. No need to call, wait on hold, and have a discussion with anyone. With this app, you can pay your bill in less than a minute, and not have to worry about being without service because of a forgotten payment.

Trashed Electronics Can Be Turned Into Treasure

Tom Lasky asked:

Preservation and conservation are terms on the tip of everybody’s tongue these days thanks to the increased discussing concerning the current state of the environment and global warming. More than ever, people are reconsidering the effect that their actions are having on other people as well as the environment as a whole. For example, are you sorting your garbage as best you can so as to ensure that all the paper goods you throw away are being placed in the appropriate recycling bins? Is the car that you are driving crushing the environment with its pollutants, or do you have a more environmentally friendly vehicle that conserves gas, thereby lowering the amount of toxins it releases into the air? Are you using a energy saving refrigerator and air conditioning unit in your home so as to lower your overall energy consumption and, as a result, lessen your home’s impact on the environment? The answers to these questions may not be so simple to understand; the important part, rather, is that you are asking them, showing a conscious effort towards helping to be part of the solution rather than continuing to be part of the problem.

Another easy way to help out our struggling environment is by trading in your old electronics – cameras, laptops, televisions, and mp3 players – when you are done using them. While this may seem like a silly solution, the fact of the matter is that the number of pollutants that arise from non-biodegradable products filling our landfills is enormous. As a result, you can sell your old electronics or trade them in to companies that specialize in turning what you deem to be trash into another man’s electronic treasure. Not only will this allow you to feel good that your old, outdated computer is being put to good use for another person, but also that your actions were environmentally savvy, and that you took a step toward reversing a negative trend that has persisted for decades.

When it comes to cell phones, the same logic can be applied. When it comes time to upgrade an iPhone 2g or 3g, you can find websites online that will buy your old item and re-sell it to somebody else in the market. Choosing to upgrade an iPhone 2g or 3g does not need to be a huge decision; with money coming in for your used phone, you can take one step closer to buying a new, faster and bigger version of the product you have grown to love.

As far as the environmental impact, choosing to upgrade an iPhone 2g or 3g through a website that sells it to another user removes the risks and dangers associated with simply throwing these types of products away in the trash. Furthermore, once you decide to upgrade an iPhone 2g or 3g through these types of affinity, specialized sites, you can feel good knowing that your old phone is now the prize of somebody else’s eye: they will take pleasure enjoying your used product while you take pleasure using a newer version. When all is said and done, making the decision to upgrade an iPhone 2g or 3g by selling your old item is beneficial to both the population and the environment as a whole.

Iphone Downloads – Options are Aplenty!

Anirban Bhattacharya asked:

It’s the case of invention being the mother of necessity. Apple created the iPhone, and a slew of must-haves created themselves; software indispensable for damage control (until completely snag free) and certain other downloads that will value add to the device. The array is mind boggling. Hence the need for intelligent reviews on the iPhone downloads that are available and those that are worth having. This article throws light on the subject of iPhone downloads options. And in the while discusses on how reviews can help you to save precious time in choosing the fitting add-on.

It all starts with the need. Why to go for a download or a cell phone reviews site? It not just because you get to grab some exciting freebies, but also because of the fact that the hen knows her ****** best. These sites focus on available updates and their efficiency to your needs. Who knows in the while you might to get to grab more points on behalf of one from slew of iPhone alternatives available today.

Then, in the parallel to iPhone download specialists, there are other sites too which help to compare these specialists on a range of parameters like cost, types of downloads, as well as 24×7 availability, media availability, speed of software, inexpensive lifetime membership and so on.

A quick search will reveal that the two best sites run neck to neck, really.

One may be cheaper by $.50 while the other may have iPod jailbreak software. If users have given one a 5-star rating and a four and a half star to the latter, you get to know that points were lost on the speed of the add-on software that the site has offered with its package.

Some sites have an extremely user-friendly interface and maybe a sneak peek area, so you get a look at the goodies before you buy them. Some sites, on the other hand, may boast ease of navigability and free video tutorials. Essentially, these sites must have a large database of downloads and an efficient customer grievance cell. Do look for all of these features on any iPhone downloads site.

The reviews on the iPhone downloads tell it like it is. Ultimately, the proof of the pudding lies in the eating; the best of reviews cannot make your decision for you. But in the course, can help a savvy downloader to make best use of the load of information and avoid making his purse lighter by few dollars.

Macquarieit Webmaster asked:

announcement of Apple about its iPhone at the Macworld 2007, a whole lot of discussion started in the tech savvy world. People were eager to extract detailed information about the function and features of this new generation device. Now, shroud has been unwrapped. This lovely device is sleek in appearance with top-notch video and music features. The innovative touchscreen is easy to handle and its multi-media has relishing quality. The iPhone has a marvelous display with trim profile and no external antenna. It measures 115mm long x 61mm wide x 12mm deep. To compare, it is wide and tall like Palm Treo 750, but much thinner than the popular Motorola RAZR. Its display is of glass instead of plastic, very handy to fit our hand. The iPhone handset’s display is noteworthy; it does not only take full advantage of the large size (3.5 inches) but also translates it into superb colors, crisp graphics and smooth movements. True to Apple’s style, the iPhone’s menu is user friendly, and attractive. Series of colored images are visible in the main menu, important features like camera, calendar and setting are placed on the top and mail folder, phone menu, iPod player, and Safari Web browser sits at the bottom of the screen. Smooth animation helps in quick shift from one function to the other. Depending on one’s requirement the touchscreen quickly transforms into a keyboard, number keypad, Safari browser, and video or music player. The iPhone is gaining popularity for its multi-touch technology, this allows finger to manipulate the screen in variety of ways. If looking at a message, you can easily amplify the text by pushing and holding over a particular area. Just move the text without lifting the finger and whole text will appear in a magnified way. In the same way, zoom in and zoom out can be performed by just putting and lifting of the finger. Likewise, in the Web browser, one can scroll the Web page by just slipping the finger, or double tap for zoom. When viewing your message list and want to delete some items, just swipe the finger from left to right throughout the message. A ‘delete’ button will come out – press it. Thanks to the iPhone’s motion sensor, it automatically adjusts the handset’s display orientation when one flips it on its side while exploiting its Internet browser and video or music players. The moment one lifts the iPhone to the ear, its proximity sensor automatically switch off the display. One of the best exterior features of iPhone is its ‘hardware menu button’. The moment you push it, it takes you back to the home screen, regardless of any applications. This single button saves you from multiple menu taps, if you are sank in secondary menu. On the top of the handset is the call controlling button, just one tap will mute the ringer, or double tap to send the call to the voicemail. This top button can also be used to put your phone asleep. So, if you are looking for an expensive latest gadget, it is nice to have iPhone. After waiting for a very long time for the launch of iPhone in Australia, it is finally here for all, but we all look forward to the days of a cheap iphone.

Ring Tones for Iphone

June 21, 2009 by

Grigoriy Anoshenko asked:

Apple has always prided itself in developing systems and software that attract the unconventional segment of the masses. And therefore, it comes as no surprise that they have gone a long way in personalising the mobile phone ring tones for their iPhone; taking it beyond mere personalisation and giving the users complete authority with its usage and ownership. At a price, of course.

iTunes users now are the privileged ones to have been given an opportunity to customise original sound tracks and other universal tracks to be able to create their own mobile phone ring tones for their iPhone. This new opportunity has the iPhone equipped with the iTunes ring tone maker that allows the users to choose from over half million songs made available through the iTunes Store. Users can purchase any song for 99 cents from the library, that is marked with a bell indicating that it can be converted into a ring tone. Once the purchase is made, the track can be played at full length and the user has the creative freedom to choose any portion of the song, add special effects such as fade in and fade out. The final length of the desired ring tone must be of 30 seconds or less and the user is ready to download the ring tone on to his/her iPhone. The cost of purchasing this custom made ring tone is another 99 cents, thereby taking the total cost of a ring tone for the iPhone to $1.98. Apple is touting this as a cheaper option to the $2.49 for mobile ring tone purchases through other providers. The final step in the acquisition of this custom made ring tone is to sync the iPhone to the system.

Although, industry experts are continuously arguing about the cost effectiveness of this feature, users are clearly not too impressed. One of the common grouses of users is the inability to comprehend why should they be made to cough up money for a song they have already paid for before. The fact that a particular track is available in their library to purchase and convert into a custom ring tone clearly demonstrates that they have already paid for that track once and that’s the reason it is sitting in their library. At $1.98 it is unarguably more affordable than other providers, but users are miffed about the fact that Apple’s marketing gimmick requires interested users to pay 100% of the song price AGAIN for a 30 second sound clip. There is a lot being said about the legality of playing sound tracks on one’s iPhone, and according to reports some views have been expressed to the effect of just manually turning on the iPod, scrolling to a song, and hitting play on it, every time the iPhone rings or vibrates to alert a call or a message! Just because it is legally right to do so and users are not willing to shell out an extra dollar to give the computer the authority to do it.

Quite understandably, research shows several articles on the web, discussing ways to work around it. Some people have suggested just purchasing the iToner for $15 and then converting multiple songs to ring tones, rather than paying a dollar each time a ring tone for the iPhone is desired. Various forums are dedicated to such activities and one of them suggests the probability of obtaining a cost free ring tone for the iPhone directly from the iTunes by just changing the extension of the file. Purchased ring tones within the iTune library have a .M4R extension and therefore any music file with the extension AAC needs to be manually changed to .M4R before it can show up in the library. Just jump to the last step and sync your iPhone and the job is done!

With these rumours doing the rounds, it will not be long before Apple comes up with another marketing strategy that not only combats this but also placates their irate customers.
